Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers, both globally and locally, founded the YMCA, and they continue to be an integral part of the YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Area. We believe that people enrich their lives when they enrich the lives of others. By giving of your time, talent, and treasure, you can help the YMCA further its mission-based promise to never turn anyone away based on inability to pay.
The benefits of volunteering with the YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Area are endless. The YMCA offers its volunteers the opportunity to enhance the lives of children and families and to help make our community stronger.
How can I volunteer at the YMCA? Board of Directors:
Volunteers serve on the YMCA Board of Directors. Currently, the YMCA Board of Directors has 27 members, including a Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer.
Youth Sports Coaches:
Hundreds of men and women volunteer their time to coach youth in a variety of sports, from T-ball to basketball, soccer to volleyball. Our Youth Sports coaches are valuable role models and guides for the thousands of youth enrolled in our programs.
Program Volunteers: Our programs can always benefit from having volunteers! Consider spending time in our MIDWAY Activity Room, helping young teens with their homework or playing games. Our Teen Leaders Club is another place to help out if you enjoy working with young teens. From assisting in the Aquatics program to helping with YMCA Adventure Guides, the YMCA has plenty of opportunities for volunteers!
Fundraising Volunteers:
The YMCA Mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. The YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Area does not turn anyone away based on inability to pay. Our Strong Kids Campaign is our major fundraiser to provide scholarships to people who would otherwise be unable to afford membership and program fees. During our annual fundraising campaign, typically held in early spring, volunteers are asked to solicit funds from the community to further advance the YMCA Mission through the Strong Kids Campaign.
